Baker Steel Trading supply and manufacture a wide range of structural steel types for use in the building industry. We have over 20 tonnes of steel available in our warehouse in Woking, UK. Steel can be used for a variety of purposes due to its adaptability and multi-functionality. Structural steel is used primarily in the building industry but is not exclusively limited to that; universal beams can be used to build bridges while hollow sections can be used for steel framing in a commercial building.

Premium Quality Structural Steel

Structural engineers specify the most appropriate grade of steel that will accommodate minimum strength and weight, along with the steel beam sizes, shapes and dimensions. We adhere to their design specifications, so you can rest assured that your steel will be fabricated with diligence and excellent attention to detail.

All of our structural steel is CE marked, which became mandatory for fabricated structural steelwork. The mechanical properties of structural steel are vital to its application, and these properties come with minimum standards of performance, namely yield strength and tensile strength.

Yield strength measures the force required to create a deformation in the steel. For structural steel beams tested at a 16mm thickness grade, under EN10025:

• S235 steel carries a PSI of 33,000 and 235 N/mm²
• S275 steel carries a PSI of 36,000 and 275 N/mm²
• S355 steel carries a PSI of 50,000 and 355 N/mm²

Tensile strength of structural steel refers to the point at which deformation occurs across the length of the steel when stretched. At a nominal thickness between 3mm and 16mm:

• S235 steel carries a tensile strength of 360-510 MPa
• S275 steel carries a tensile strength of 370-530 MPa
• S355 steel carries a tensile strength of 470-630 MPa

So you can rest assured that your beams and bars are going to be of premium quality and strength.

We supply the standard I beam, hollow section steel (HSS), equal and unequal angle steel, PFC channels and much more to suit your needs. Our Structural Steel, Light & Rolled Sections and Hollow Sections pages all have tables where you can determine the minimum and maximum lengths, depth, weight, web and flange thickness or overall size, depending on what you’re after.
