Parallel Flange Channels
Alongside industry standard universal beams and columns, Baker Steel Trading fabricate hot rolled Parallel Flange Channels (PFC). These channels are commonly referred to as C Sections or C Beams, due to their noticeable crescent shape.
Parallel Flange Channels are known for their diverse design flexibility and are particularly useful for slotting into place alongside other steel materials. The minimal steel consumption used in the manufacturing process has cemented them as a viable, more cost-effective option to I Beams in structural steel projects.
They are suitable for use in structural applications or engineering, and due to their increased durability and strength, they make ideal columns or floor joist supports. Notably, a PFC steel beam is a more flexible product to be used as a loading bearing product.
PFCs possess standard nominal depths, with varying web and flange thicknesses. The traditional rolling method to fabricate steel is also used for PFCs, with the added bonus that can be fabricated more easily and modified to meet individual requests.
As a starting point, Baker Steel Trading offer PFC channels from 100mm (depth) x 50mm (width) x 10kg per metre with a web and flange thickness of 5mm and 8.5mm respectively. The maximum size of PFC we offer is 430 x 100 x 64kg per metre, but we are happy to discuss sizes and measurements of beams if you need something slightly different.
