Rectangular Hollow Sections
Rectangular Hollow Sections, more often referred to as RHS, is arguably the strongest hollow section with the largest amount of functionality. It is a very popular choice amongst builders and others completing high functioning structural or mechanical projects.
Due to its flat surfaces (much like Square Hollow Sections) RHS beams make popular hollow sections for joining and welding. Fabrication workers tend to prefer RHS as a joining material due to the flat surfaces, where all that is needed is a straight cut to the bars, when connecting to other surfaces. The edge preparation for RHS is minimal due to its shape.
RHS’ clean lines make it a good architectural material as well, so there is an aesthetic benefit to it as well as a practical one.
Compared to open sections, rectangular and square structural hollow sections have economic advantages as well as great resistance to torsion and buckling.
